The CIP CHASE Your Dreams - Achieve Nothing Less Mentor Program is a mentoring program that consists of University of the Pacific students, including CIP students, who have applied and gained training to develop and implement curriculum specifically for underrepresented 6th, 7th, and 8th grade youth-promoting academic and personal excellence.  CIP CHASE understands the importance that support and empowerment can have on the educational attainment of Stockton students.

 

CHASE mentors work alongside other mentors.  Mentors work in groups of 2-5 mentors and facilitate curriculum sessions to groups of approximately 15-20 students.

 

Mentoring takes approximately 2 hours a week; 1 hour is dedicated to the overview session in which mentors will learn about the topic and 1 hour for the mentor session they are responsible for facilitating (using the curriculum).
All mentors are committing to making it to the session they are assigned week to week.
Mentors are asked to commit to a minimum of 1 school year (fall to spring).
Ideally, mentors would be available for 2 to 3 years to develop strong relationships with the students they are working with.

 

Dates/Times:
-Currently sessions are being facilitated in an after-school program style thus times range from 1:00pm-3:30pm and occur once a week during the weekday depending on the school location (for example Madison Elementary on Thursdays at 2:30pm - 3:30pm).

Locations:
-The CHASE Mentor program collaborates with four schools from the Stockton community including Kohl Elementary, Madison Elementary, Wilson Elementary, and St. George Parish School.

In the time of Covid all mentor sessions are conducted via Zoom.
If and when campuses allow students to return to campus, mentors will be responsible for getting to the school campus and facilitating the session face to face.

 

Mentors will be asked to sign off on a Mentor Contract.  Please see information below related to the contract:

Follow all rules and guidelines as outlined by the program coordinator, mentor training, program policies, and this contract. Be flexible and provide the necessary support and advice to help my mentee and other mentor’s success. Make a one-year commitment to CHASE (2 semesters).  Attend each curriculum overview and training sessions. Be on time for scheduled meetings or contact program coordinator- via email, group me or in person if I am unable to make a meeting. Openly communicate with the program coordinator as requested (especially considering any conflict, disputes, reportable information regarding mentors and students).  Inform the program coordinator of any difficulties or areas of concern that may arise in the relationship. Keep any information that students or mentor team tells me confidential except as may cause his/her or others harm. Always obey traffic laws when in the presence of my mentee Never be in the presence of my mentee when I have or am consuming alcohol, tobacco, or controlled substances. Participate in a closure process, exit interviews and assessment,  when that time comes Notify the program coordinator if I have any changes in address, phone number, or academic standing.  Attend retreat mentor training sessions twice per year and any other training sessions added  If on Academic Probation I understand that I will dismissed from mentoring for a half to full semester. If mentor completes monthly progress report showing a GPA of a 2.5 or higher- mentor will be allowed to come back to mentor after the first half of semester. Student dismissal for whole semester if GPA shows a 2.4 or lower. Mentor is allowed to return as a mentor in the next coming year if GPA is above a 2.0   and is no longer on Academic Probation.

We are need of people with big hearts for kids, especially kids in foster care!

When kids, through no fault of their own, get placed into the juvenile dependency system, the world can become a scary and lonely place. Children in the juvenile dependency system often get moved from home to home, for the child that means; new rules to follow, new school, new teachers, new friends… As CASA volunteer you may very likely be the only ‘constant’ in a foster youth’s life, it’s a big commitment, but impact you will have on a child’s life will be worth it all.  I promise.<!--?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /-->

Volunteers who wish to join this program will need to go through 30 hours of trainning over a 5 week period. The trainning is free and the times of the trainning do vary. We are need of people with big hearts for kids, especially kids in foster care!

When kids, through no fault of their own, get placed into the juvenile dependency system, the world can become a scary and lonely place. Children in the juvenile dependency system often get moved from home to home, for the child that means; new rules to follow, new school, new teachers, new friends… As CASA volunteer you may very likely be the only ‘constant’ in a foster youth’s life, it’s a big commitment, but impact you will have on a child’s life will be worth it all.  I promise.<!--?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /-->

Volunteers who wish to join this program will need to go through 30 hours of trainning over a 5 week period. The trainning is free and the times of the trainning do vary.
