Description

Volunteer at Micke Grove Zoo!

Conservation education programs are conducted at the zoo to promote local knowledge on wildlife conservation. Volunteers are trained at this facility and some of them are hired on a regular basis.

We have started accepting volunteer applications and marketing our volunteer program.

Our current projects include:

Setting up a pollinator garden: we are in the process of planting wildflower seeds to conserve monarch butterflies. Our team will include zoo staff, park staff, and volunteers. We will be 1) digging small holes to plant our seedlings, 2) raking the ground to plant seeds, 3) making plant labels, 4) and watering plants

Volunteering with Education staff: the education staff setup tables in the zoo to share information with the zoo visitors about the natural history, biology and behavior, and conservation issues of our animal residents. Volunteers will help education staff 1) set up these tables, 2) organize animal bio facts, 3) make creative information for school students and children that will visit the table, 4) train to share information with the zoo visitors, 5) return all bio facts to their respective containers at the end of the shift

Helping Animal Care staff: this would include 1) helping make animal diets, 2) organize animal crates and carriers, 3) make new environmental enrichment for animal residents and learn about their purpose, 4) learn about browse plants and obtain browse as enrichment for animal residents

The minimum age for volunteers is 18 years
