Description

Find Your Voice is our creative writing program. We work with young writers in a variety of settings. Find your Voice is inspired by the Amherst Writers & Artists’ (AWA) Method as well as 826 Valencia The AWA philosophy: every person is a writer, and every writer deserves a safe environment in which to experiment, learn, and develop their craft. Students are encouraged to share their work out loud, and they give and receive positive feedback from their peers Workshops occur in:
  • Underserved low-income schools
  • Juvenile Justice Facilities and early intervention programs
  • Imaginarium (916 Ink Creative Writing Center)

GUEST EDITORS: These volunteers meet one-on-one with our youth writers to introduce them to the revision process and give them feedback on their writing.

A Guest Editor is a single-day volunteer editor that will provide some in-class one-on-one feedback on specific stories/poems that the writer chooses to revise. They will focus on adding detail to the story, helping make the writer’s intentions as clear as possible. This role is perfect for someone who desires to make an in-class impact, but does not have the time to commit to a full 12-week program.
