Volunteer: Board MemberDuty Function: The Board ensures that the Organization takes a prudent approach to using assets, including facilities, people, and goodwill. It shall also provide oversight for all activities that improve and sustain the organization. The Board shall make decisions in the best interest of the Organization and not put themselves first. It also ensures that confidentiality is maintained about matters that are discussed in executive sessions. The Board shall know the local, state and federal laws regarding nonprofit organizations. It also ensures that members of the non-profit act ethically, while adhering to the stated mission and purpose of the organization. The Board will oversee the business and fundraising activities of the Organization. The Board will expect board members to contribute some of their own finances, as well as participate in other types of fundraising efforts. Board members shall make a mandatory donation at the beginning or end of the year. The exact mandated amount shall be decided by a Board vote. The Board shall ask people within their personal and professional relationships to make contributions during fundraising campaigns. The Board shall brainstorm, select, and organize fundraising events. The Board shall actively participate in fundraising activities. The Board shall hire or elect to the board at least one trained Grant Writer/Grant Manager to seek available and relevant grant opportunities, complete proposals, and monitor grant activityThe Board shall hold and host ONE annual event and THREE quarterly events for the purpose of fundraising and supporting cancer survivors.
