The Center for Community Involvement and the United Way of San Joaquin County invite Pacific Students to apply for the:
Max Paulsen Community Service Award
Write a 750 word reflective essay on community service that you performed during the 2017-2018 academic year.
Open to Pacific students performing volunteer work or unpaid academic internships with local nonprofits.
Guidelines for Entry:
- Students must write a double-spaced, word-processed, 12 point font reflective essay, no more than 750 words
- Include the following information at the top of the essay:
- Name and Pacific ID
- Major, Year in School, and Anticipated Graduation Date
- Email and Phone Number
- Please submit your essay in Word (rather than a PDF)
Service Guidelines:
- Community service must be recorded on Reach Out Online (www.pacific.edu/reachout). If you have questions on how to do this or need a new opportunity added to the list, please contact the Center for Community Involvement (CCI) at cci@pacific.edu or 209.946.2444
- Service commitment must be to the Stockton or surrounding area communities (80 mile radius) during the 2017-2018 academic year
Essay prompts:
- Which volunteer site did you work with, what did you do, how long have you been working with this community partner?
- What is this organization's mission or purpose? Why did you choose this site?
- Reflect back on your service, what did you learn and how will it impact your future?
- Why is it important for citizens to commit to active engagement with their communities? Draw on examples from your experiences working within the community to illustrate your answer.
