Who We Are
Founded in 2010, the Stockton Maritime Museum’s mission is to create a permanent museum providing public access to Stockton’s historical and cultural heritage involving the use of ships to prosper its creation, growth and prosperity. SMM will preserve the history of the maritime industry on the Downtown Waterfront, which was instrumental to our city’s founding, growth, international trade, and our nation’s defense.
What We Do
Currently, our main program revolves around restoration and maintenance of our museum feature, the USS Lucid (MSO-458). Lucid is the last Navy ship of its class in the entire country. We open this ship to the public twice a year for one day each in the Spring and the Fall. We host twice monthly volunteer work days on board the ship every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. Finally, we collect donations of items that we clean and stage on the ship as space allows, or house it in our storage for future exhibits in our Downtown permanent museum.
